And so it came to pass that the 12th Doctor was revealed, and all the Whovians in all the Whoniverse, along with at least 75% of the internet, had an aneurysm!  Before Peter Capaldi has uttered a single line as the 12th Doctor there are probably a lot of Whovians who are in turmoil over the choice.  This is unfounded of course, and speaks more loudly of the fickle nature of Whovians than the inherit “correctness” of casting Peter Capaldi as the next Doctor.

There are now a legion of Whovians who have only known the Doctor as a young piece of eye candy, but that wasn’t always the case.  While Peter Davidson was able to pull off a young dashing Doctor, the best castings were those that were a bit older.  Tom Baker, Jon Pertwee, and Patrick Troughton all played the Doctor the way I think the part should always fall back to after a younger casting.

Matt Smith has become an excellent Doctor, but I think the role has become too frantic, and needs to regain an element of mature confidence.  At the very least I hope this will put an end to the sexual tension between the Doctor and his companions that has become so prevalent in NuWho.  I have absolutely no clue as to how the Doctor’s story will unfold through the 50th anniversary and after regenerating, but I can honestly say I am thrilled and overjoyed by the casting of Peter Capaldi as the 12th Doctor.  I cannot wait to see him pilot the TARDIS to their first adventure!
