Something very timey-wimey just happened in the eleventh issue of the Tenth Doctor comic book by Titan Comics. While back on Earth with his companion, Gabriella “Gabby” Gonzalez, the Doctor finds himself the victim of an alien weapon that de-ages people.

The kicker is that it doesn’t just make you younger so much as it actually turns back your personal timeline, so after the effects take hold on the Doctor he winds up “retro-regenerating” back into the Ninth Doctor!

The Doctor Who comics from Titan have been a lot of fun to read. With interesting companions, and stories that would cost way more than the BBC would ever allow, the comics have given Whovians a chance to see a lot more adventures from Doctors who have long since regenerated.

What’s very interesting in this issue is the introduction of something so incredibly unique in fifty years of Doctor Who mythology, the idea of retro-regeneration. The issue ends with the image of the Ninth Doctor in Ten’s brown pinstripe suit, so we’ll have to wait for the next issue to see how the story progresses, but it’s definitely one of the most interesting things that has happened in Doctor Who for a long time!

Later this summer Titan Comics will be putting out a miniseries involving four Doctors, including John Hurt’s War Doctor. If you haven’t checked out the Doctor Who comics from Titan yet do yourself a favor, get caught up and enjoy the ride. The three main books right now are Tenth, Eleventh, and Twelfth Doctor stories, as well as a Ninth Doctor miniseries, and the previously mentioned Four Doctors later this summer.
