At first Bounty Killer seemed like it was going to be just another post-apocalyptic B side movie. It has the classic anti-hero, the heroine, the comedic sidekick, the old man and the new villain. This generic formula that many movies have followed seemed to be on the table for this one as well, boy was I wrong. The film actually has a great and some what plausible story line and the production value is up there with large budget Hollywood releases.
The story goes that large corporations have taken over government and created massive armies in turn destroying much of the country in the Corporate Wars, leaving it a desolate wasteland. The executives of these corporations then abandon their respective companies and go in to hiding with the remaining wealth of the country in tow. This spawns the creation of the Council of Nine, they issue the bounties on these executives, and the Bounty Killers. The Bounty Killers sole mission is to hunt down these corporate big wigs and bring them in to collect the bounty on their head, sometimes the head is missing though. That is about as much of the story as I am willing to inform you about without giving away any major spoilers.
This is a film that a person has to experience for themselves. It plays out like a mash-up between Mad Max and the Fallout video games series, with a sprinkle of Duke Nukem humor. Bounty Killer provides the viewer with a wonderful balance of story and unbridled violence, pretty much the same formula as a Disney movie. The movie has excellent set design and good cinematography work to go right along with it. Plus it has an Airstream Camper that is pulled by two Harley Davidsons, I mean come on, everyone wants one of those! I personally would like two..
It’s funny, I watched this movie late one evening thinking it would just be a mindless action movie that would require little to no attention. But I found something better, the feel and flashing moving pictures of a mindless action movie delicately woven in to the fabric of something greater. Bounty Killer is one of those movies that should build a very large cult following, at least it better, because I want to see a squeal.
Not very many movies teach me a lesson, Bounty Killer has taught me many. First off, do not trust the Netflix star rating system. I have known this for a while but this film reiterated that fact to me. Second, most people that review movies do it with such bias that they actually can not complete their job in a competent manner. I learned a long time ago to watch movies with an open mind and to let lose any preconceived notions, so basically I am a movie Jedi. By being able to do this you will seek much greater enjoyment from your movie experience. Last off, community film review sites are generally garbage.
So go forth and watch Bounty Killer, it is avialable on Netflix streaming, and enjoy the campiness of this wonderful film. From the goons in suits to the stop sign battle ax, it truly is a wonderful thing!
