Spider-man creators Stan Lee and Steve Ditko would be proud of director Marc Webb’s dazzling portrayal of one of their most iconic heroes for the second time. Many fans believed it would be difficult to live up to Webb’s previous 2012 film, but the ‘Webb-slinger’ did not disappoint. From start to finish The Amazing Spider-man 2 was riveting. I was so excited through the whole film I was crouched on the edge of my seat.
Writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci did a wonderful job shaping the villains for this film. Fans were worried the movie would be made too crowded by introducing three new baddies to the new franchise, but everything was well placed and they kept a strong order and structure through the entire sitting. All special effects were top notch, some of the best I’ve seen in a Spider-man movie so far. The score was composed by Hans Zimmer, who is known for soundtracks on films such as The Dark Knight and The Pirates of the Caribbean. Zimmer’s rendition of the Spider-man theme is perfect for the feel of the film.
Andrew Garfeild and Emma Stone are perfect together. Their chemistry makes the emotional situations seem real for them and the audience. Garfeild shows how far he can take Peter Parker emotionally and really makes you feel for his struggle as a hero and a friend.
Now on to our villains. This movie isn’t called ‘Rise of Electro’ for nothing. Jamie Foxx IS Max Dillon, ’nuff said, as Stan ‘the man’ Lee would say. Paul Giamatti as the Rhino was one of the best casting choices I’ve ever seen. He is a wide-ranging actor who is due for a good ‘comic movie’. And Dane Duhann as the legendary Green Goblin was a choice I was nervous about. Duhann is a terrific actor and is a perfect Harry Osbourn, but when I heard he was the Goblin my fanboy kicked in and I couldn’t believe the outrage, but after seeing the film I realize that it was important to the story and the flow to have written it this way, and Duhann’s casting was not an outrage at all, and possibly my favorite character in the movie.
This is the best Spider-man I’ve seen and I strongly suggest everyone see it. If you get the chance, try it in IMAX 3D or AMC Prime theaters!
