Did you ever wish Etsy would fall in love with a 3D printer, settle down in a little house with a white picket fence, then have a wonderful baby that sold 3D printed media in an online setting?
Yeah, me too!!!
So what the heck are we talking about here anyway? Shapeways!
Go ahead and click over to the site; I’ll wait here for a moment.
Shapeways is a website with a registered set of builders, or creators, or programmers, perhaps? Whatever they call themselves, these clever people design 3D printed items: from cell phone cases, to jewelery, to DnD Dice! What you do is browse through the wildly enormous inventory of designed items, find one (or several) that you like, add it to your cart, and voila (!) – your item is printed at a remote factory location and shipped to you.
There are a few in-between steps here and there, like choosing the material your item will be printed with (tough strong acrylic all the way to brass and stainless steel), color, quantity, etc. But by and large, what we have here is an Etsy for 3D printed media.
You can even upload a 3D printer file you create yourself and the folks at Shapeways will print it for you (at a cost per cubic centimeter) and ship it out. You can also track your order through the factory as it goes from the electronic phase, to the printing machines, then out to you via our post system!
Don’t believe me? Try it out and get your wonderful new printed media today!!!
